En la esquina de la calle del Parlamento y la calle del puente del parlamento en Westminster, esta pareja protesta en contra de la guerra y proclama su mensaje de paz. Y la taza que este señor sostiene en la mano no es para las propinas, es su taza de té como buen súbdito del imperio británico por supuesto.
In the corner formed by Parliamernt Street and Parliament Bridge Street, this couple is protesting against the war and proclaiming a peace message to the world. And by the way the mug that this man is holding in his hand is not for tips, but of course is his cup of tea as any proper subject of the British Empire .

Frente al edificio del parlamento en Westminster - Londres, existe una especie de campamento permanente levantado por aquellos que protestan en contra de la política del gobierno británico de participación en la guerra contra Irak, estas personas visten camisetas que llevan impresas los nombres de los paises que EEUU e Inglaterra han atacado en los últimos 50 años y entre estos paises figura curiosamente el Perú en el año 1965. Esta foto es de uno de los miembros de este grupo, llevaba puesto un casco de soldado cubierto de botones con mensajes por la paz.
In front of the parliament building in Westminster, there is a sort of encampment made by those who protest against the war in Irak british government policy, all of these people wear t-shirts with the names of the countries that the USA and England have attacked in the last 50 years, and curiously enough I manage to find that Peru was attacked in 1965. This picture is of one of the protesters with an army helmet covered in badges with peace messages.

I couldn't find any relationship between these two pictures, the first is a Samurai warrior costume in a Exeter's museum and the former, as you can see is a chess match. If you can came up with any idea who could link these two, you are more than welcome to let us know.

Arrivando a Hay-on-Wye, un pueblo ubicado en el centro del país de Gales, se me presento la vista de esta casa en medio de las colinas. Hay-on-Wye es un pueblo en donde se encuentra una gran cantidad de librerias que ofrecen una amplía variedad de libros a muy buenos precios; todo esto en medio de la campiña galesa y una arquitectura acogedora.

Arriving at Hay-on-Way in mid-Wales, this nice landscape of a house in the middle of a country hill appeared in front of me. Hay-on-Wye is a town where there are numerous bookshops with a great assortment of books at cheap prices, all of these within the welsh country-side and a cozy simple architecture.

Este es Kieffer mi hijo, le gusta correr y saltar como a to niño de su edad (2), y no pude resistir la tentación de sacarle esta foto, portando una rama y su biberón con una expresión de determinación en su rostro que me pareció la de una persona que defiende su territorio o algo así, en todo caso le preguntare cuando pueda hablar y si aún se acuerda.
This is my son Keiffer, like any child of his age (2), he loves to run and jump and I couldn't resist the temptation of taking him a picture, holding the branch and his beaker in the other hand with the expression of someone determined to defend his territory or something like that anyway I will ask him when he will talk and if he still remembers.

Otra imagen de Bath, en este caso creo que es la cabecera en la entrada de los baños termales, aunque el motivo de la publicación de está foto es que estaba tratatando de usar picasa (el programa gratuito de google para la administración y edición de imágenes ) junto con la conexión de blogger incluida en picasa, y esta ves si me resulto, yupii!
Another image from Bath, in this case I think it is the top of one of the Roman's bath entrances, although the reason to publish this photo is trying to use picasa (the image software from google) with the blogger add-on within picasa. It seems that it worked fine this time, Yupie!

Era una noche fria y no habíamos cocinado nada, así que lo primero que se nos ocurrió fué ir a comer uno de los platos más comunes en este país (Inglaterra), pescado frito con papas fritas, se parece mucho a lo que acostumbramos en Perú: pollo con papas fritas, nos fuimos a los terrenos públicos de Chipping Sodbury, como yo acostumbro comer un poco mas rapido que mi familia, aproveche el tiempo de sobra para salir y tomar esta foto del auto en los que mi familia comian, era una noche de luna llena y deje el obturador abierto por 30 segundos, en eso un carro paso entre la camara y el auto y esa es la estela de luz que se ve enfrente del mismo, tuve que usar un trípode para lograr la ímagen.

It was a cold night and we haven't made anything for dinner, so the first thing who came out was to run for one of the most popular british dishes: "fish & chips", which is somehow similar to the chicken and chips in Peru. Then off we went to the Chipping Sodbury common, and as I am used to eat a little bit faster than the rest of my family I used the spare time to take this picture of the car because it was a Moonlit night, leaving the shutter open for 30 seconds and in during that time a car crossed the road and that is how that red light line is appearing in the image, I have to use a tripod as well

La razón por la cual he cambiado de blog es por la incompatibilidad entre blogger beta y las demás herramientas que uso para cargar las fotos (Picassa, hello y blog this), así que opte por lo más simple: crear otra cuenta en blogger sin la actualización (beta).

Glastonbury at last! - Al fin Glastonbury!

I was looking for this pictures to be posted for a long time, because Glastonbury is such a magical place which somehow reminds me of Cusco, I will put more about it later on, so far I hope you will enjoy this pictures. The top one is of the Glastonbury Tor , allegedly that site is where King Arthur was buried althought its just a legend there are historical facts associated with it, is located on top of a hill who faces Glastonbury village. The second picture is a shop cornice above the entrance all painted in green, quite colourful.
Hace buen tiempo que deseaba publicar estas imágenes, es que Glastonbury es un lugar con una atmosfera mágica la cual me recuerda de alguna manera al Cusco, pondré más fotos en el futuro, por ahora espero que estas sean de vuestro agrado. La foto de arriba es del Otero de Glastonbury (Lo siento pero no puedo encontrar una mejor traducción para el nombre de aquel lugar), supuestamente es donde fue enterrado el Rey Arturo aunque esto es solo una leyenda si existen hechos históricos asociados a este lugar, esta torre se encuentra en la cima de una colina que domina toda la villa de Glastonbury. La segunda fotografía es de una cornisa en la entrada de una tienda toda pintada de verde, me parecio colorida así que la fotografíe.

One early evening with nothing to do I went to the train station in Yate, it is a small and lonely place, I was looking for something to shoot and because I am quite shy to do it in public (so far I lack the guts to do it....), well I decided to take some pictures around. Hope the sepia toning and the framing would help in conveying that mood.
Una tarde temprano sin nada que hacer fui a la estación del tren en Yate, es un lugar pequeño y solitario, estaba buscando algo que fotografiar y debido a que soy algo tímido para hacerlo en lugares abiertos y públicos (Hasta ahora no tengo las agallas para hacerlo...), decidí fotografiar en este lugar. Espero que el tono sepia y el marco sirvan para transmitir aquellas sensaciones.

Despues de pensarlo por un tiempo, me anime a poner estas imagenes en el blog. La primera es de una motocicleta que vi en Chippenham, me gusto el modelo, es una Triumph hecha en Inglaterra, y la segunda foto es de la corteza de un arbol con una apariencia inusual, no se si es una enfermedad o un accidente lo que causo esto pero me parecio atractivo.

Estas imágenes son de la iglesia de Yate, la cual data del siglo XV, la primera es de la bisagra que sostenia la antigua puerta , notese ademas las paredes de piedra caliza, y la segunda foto es del ornamento de hierro de la puerta, todo esto contribuye a ese aire mistico y sacro.

Al inicio de la primavera en estas latitudes (aprox. 50 grados norte), se ve un estallido de formas y colores, las plantas y las flores estan en su esplendor, aromas y luz inundan todo; y entre todas las flores las del árbol de cerezo son las que más llamán mi atención, tal vez es lo dramático del color o que sé yo, simplemente me gusta y no me canso de mirar...

At the end of the spring at these latitudes (around 50 degrees north), you can witness everywhere an explotion of colours and shapes, plants and flowers are blossoming and at their best, all flooded with scents and light. But from all of that, the one I like the most is the Cherry tree flower, maybe is its colour intensity, honestly I really can't explain, I just like it and I never get tired of stare at it...

At the end of spring or start of summer, the grain crops are already harvested leaving just empty stalks wich are lately packaged in big cylindrical shapes all over the fields. A nice view over the English country-side.

Near Kingscote in Gloucestershire there is a cozy and calm place called Matará, sort of meditation, spiritual and magical centre. Today we have been over there just for a walk, you just left the money that you consider fair inside a honesty box and that is it, and near the entrance concealed by bamboo walls I happend to find this entrance, nice and enticing.
Cerca de Kingscote en la región de Gloucestershire se encuentra un lugar tranquilo y acogedor llamado Matará, es una clase de centro espiritual, meditacional y mágico. Hoy estuvimos allí en plan de caminata, dejas la cantidad de dinero que consideres justo dentro de la urna de la honestidad y entras. Cerca del estacionamiento oculta por unas paredes de bambú encontré esta entrada hermosa y seductora.

Westonbirt Arboretum

Some horses at the other side of the fence, the one in the foreground was observing me almost like posing for the photograph.

Hydrangea is one of many different flower species that can be found in Westonbirt arboretum, this flowers caught my attention because of their colour and paper-like texture.
Estas hortencias son unas de las varias especies de flores que se pueden encontrar en el jardín botánico de Westonbirt , estas en particular otrajeron mi atención debido a su color y a la textura de sus hojas muy similar a la del papel.

monkey Puzzle tree is original from the south of Chile, this is another beautiful tree in Westonbirt. The Tag has written the name of the person who made the donation and its scientific name.
El Pino araucano es originario del sur de Chile, este es otro hermozo arbol que crece en Westonbirt. El aviso en el mismo indica el nombre de la persona que lo donó su nombre científico.

A Sycamore tree bark, (But I don't remember, please correct me), its orange and that is what it caught my attention, standing out in a forest of green and brown trees, with a texture resembling an old ship's hull. Apperently only young sycamores have this colour and later on it fades away.

La corteza de este arbol Sicamoro (Aunque realmente no recuerdo el nombre, por favor corrijanme si conocen esta especie), es de color naranja y fué precisamente eso lo que me llamó la atención, sobresaliendo entre un bosque de troncos marrones y verdes, con una textura que me recuerda el casco de un viejo barco. Aparentemente solo los arboles jóvenes son de este color y luego desaparece.

Castle Combe

Near Yate (where I actually live), there is a small and cozy village called Castle Combe within the Cotswold region. Stone-wall cottages with slate-tiled roofs are the main characteristics of this lovely place, aparently some houses where built in the 14th century and the architecture of the town was modyfied to suit the ambience of those times in order to shoot the film "Dr Doolittle". After the film was made many of the dwellers decided to keep the old look of the houses and it really helped in to infuse that singular spirit and character to this old small town.
Cerca de Yate, donde actualmente vivo, existe un pequeño y acogedor pueblito llamado Castle Combe dentro de la región Cotswold. Casitas con paredes de piedra y techos con tejas de pizarra son las características principales de este hermoso lugar, por lo que me han contado varias de las casas aquí datan del siglo catorce y la arquitectura del lugar fué modificada para revivir el ambiente de aquella época para la película "Dr Doolittle" . Una ves que se termino de rodar la pelicula en este lugar, los habitantes de Castle Combe decidieron conservar aquellas modificaciones que realzan ese carácter singular de antiguedad.

A couple of days ago we went for a walk around Bristol and I could been within the Clifton suspension bridge for my first time, I took a lot of pictures but at the end this one rendered in a different taste, a little bit surreal I would say and above all is the one that I fancy the most.

That same day on our way back home, I found a street passage lit by these lights and I tried to capture the mood, kind of dark and solitary. I made the sepia toning to help convey that idea.

Bath at night, it was in Christmast time that we were strolling around and I shooted this photo of a street market by the side of the Abbey, plenty of stands with all kind of things(photography, handcrafs, candles, toys), there was even a peruvian stand selling music and some ethnic articles. It was nice and colourful.
Bath de noche, fue en navidad que estuvimos paseando por las calles de Bath cuando tome esta foto cerca de la abadía, hubo una gran cantidad de puestos que ofrecían todo tipo de mercaderias (fotografías, manualidades, juguetes, etc. ), hasta me encontre con un puesto de un peruano que ofrecía musica y productos autoctonos. Coventry's cathedral was destroyed during WWII, remaining only the tower and the exterior walls. Within of what was the main nave of the cathedral I found this evocative sculpture who's name I can't recall, although I have tried one with this post title.
La catedral de Coventry fue destruida durante la segunda guerra mundial, quedando en pie solo los muros exteriores y la torre del campanario. Dentro de lo que el piso de la nave principal, encontre esta emotiva escultura, y cuyo nombre no recuerdo aunque intente ponerle uno con el título de este post.

A jag abstract in the transportation museum at Coventry, this pic was taken from outside the window sills, you can tell by the way the reflection is in the surface. This car seems to me to be a proptotype from the renewed british car brand, it looked kind of luxurious and sporty.

Cusco by night, this was my last picture of Cusco, I've got like 15 minutes for going around the main square before saying goodbye. The street who goes forward in the corner is the one who connects with Regocijo square.

I always been advised to go to the Pisac's market on Sunday or Thursday, but unfortunely I haven't got that choise so I went there the only day that I could and it was on monday, not bad isn't it? a very colourful and vibrant market I would say.

A woman weaving in Cusco, I met this silent and humble woman on my way to Urubamba, she was weaving a mantle with a very simple loom (using lamb's wool), I believe that she was making it up just for the tourist because she was strategically positioned by the side of the road facing down the city of Cusco and it looked like she was taking ages for that task, fair enough wasn't a bad idea after all.
Una mujer usando el telar en Cusco, encontre a esta humilde y callada señora en mi viaje al valle sagrado (Urubamba), se encontraba tejiendo esta manta en un telar muy sencillo (empleando lana de carnero), creo que estaba actuando para los turistas más que tejiendo propiamente (le tomaba una eternidad para avanzar en su trabajo), además estaba estratégicamente ubicada al lado de la pista cerca de las ruinas de Sacsayhuaman y con el fondo de la ciudad del Cusco. Nada mal para vender esa imagen ¿no?

Pulteney Bridge (Bath - England)

The pulteney bridge, supposedly one of the very few bridges with buildings on top of it in Europe. I was on top of a double decker bus when I press the shooter like 4 or 5 times and one of them turn to be an acceptable photograph. It was a "lucky strike" I would say. The trip around Bath is given by a tour company for 9 pounds per person and last in between 30 to 45 minutes. If you are in Bath, then I recommend you to take one.
El puente Pulteney, aparentemente uno de los pocos en Europa que tiene construciones sobre él (todas las edificaciones son comerciales). Estaba en el segundo piso de un bus (aquí les llaman "Double deckers" o doble cubiertas en castellano), cuando tomé como 4 ó 5 fotos y una de estas resulto ser aceptable; fue lo que llamaría un "golpe de suerte". El paseo en bus alrededor de la ciudad de Bath es brindado por una empresa de turismo que esta cerca del puente Pultney y cuesta alrededor de 9 libras esterlinas por persona y dura entre 30 y 45 minutos, si estas de visita en Bath te recomiendo que lo tomes, vale la pena.

Another view of the jesuits church, I found it nice because of the different patterns in tiles, it was a day threatening to pour down a heavy shower, indeed it was, it was taken three weeks ago.

The Jesuit's church in Cusco's main square, was a lovely clear day, I just haved like half an hour to roam around Cusco after arriving and this with the two other billion pictures was the only thing that I could take from that beautiful city.

Barranco's old church, at one end of the sighting bridge, is a strange place because its only the facade who is in pristine condition and the rest is derelic with vultures on the rafts of what once was the roof in the church main building.
La vieja iglesía de Barranco al final del puente de los suspiros, es un lugar extraño porque solamente la fachada de ese edificio se encuentra en condiciones presentables, el resto esta cayendose a pedazos, gallinazos tomando el sol en las vigas de lo que fue el techo de la nave principal son los únicos parroquianos.

A Cholo Taxi in all its prowess, as is usually found in any peruvian street, they are practical and amusing for short distance trips to the markets or bus stops. The owners like to decorate this motor trikes (most of them 125 cbr hondas), with all sorts of stickers of animals (roaring Lion's heads, screaming eagleheads, etc) and symbols like a pirate skull or nike swooshes.
Un taxi cholo en todo su poder!, esta foto es la típica magen de un cholo taxi como se puede encontrar en cualquier calle del Perú, son muy comodas y prácticas para viajes cortos (como ir al mercado o al paradero del microbus). Sus dueños gustan de decorar sus tricicletas con imagenes autoadhesivas de animales (cabezas de leones rugientes, aguilas gritando y cosas por el estilo) además de otros símbolos como calaveras piratas y el logo de nike.

On my way to Cusco through the chinchero's way, that was a mountain whos name I can recall but any help will be much appreciated. We were on our way back to Cusco after visiting Pisac and Urubamba cities.
De regreso al Cusco a traves de la via de Chincheros, esta montaña cuyo nombre no puedo aún recordar (y del cual toda ayuda sera muy apreciada), estaba lista para ser fotografiada con la nieve en su cumbre, las nubes, ese cielo azul y un primer plano de flores amarillas. Estabamos regresando de visitar las ciudades de Pisac y Urubamba.
